The market for consumer electronics is still strong with sales for all kinds of brand name goods and gadgets and gizmos being high. The Financial Times reported that British Ebay traders made a combined 2 billion pounds in 2007, topping the annual turnover of major UK retail chain WH Smiths.

However, with more customers comes more competition and, according to the Financial Times there were as many as 178,000 eBay sellers in 2007 in the UK alone. This was 160% more UK eBay sellers than 2005.

As a result it has become harder to sell consumer goods and brand name phones particularly and brands like Nokia, Apple and motorolla have lost some of their value online.

This has lead to consumers considering other options, including purchasing little known cellphones from China and other parts of the world from reputable online mobile shops in China.

EBay traders looking to supply this market won’t have any problems finding phones either with recent developments seeing a large stream of wholesale mobile phone manufacturers releasing a raft of products onto the market.

In fact, it is a common problem which most practitioners can usually get around by ordering a sample and putting it through its paces before you put it online.

Another issue you may have to address is customer trust issues and gaining a good reputation. As you don’t have the reputation of a known trade band to work off you’ll have to build up your customers’ trust in your name and your shop.

The best way to build your own name as a brand is to develop a strong customer service system where you will answer customer questions from the time they are thinking about purchasing a wholesale mobile phone till after they have bought it.

Another way to build a strong reputation as a trader in this category is to offer a one-year warranty to help ease any customer fears about getting a faulty product.
